WORLD RESOURCES INSTITUTE SEEKS COMMENTS ON PUBLIC SECTOR STANDARD

The GHG Protocol Initiative at World Resources Institute, in partnership with Logistics Management Institute (LMI), has issued a provisional draft of its Public Sector Standard, and it will be open for public comment until Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009. This standard builds off the core greenhouse gas accounting principles established in the WRI/WBCSD Corporate Standard, but includes expanded discussions and guidance on how to apply those principles to government operations at the federal, state and local level. This standard is compatible with the Local Government Operations (LGO) Protocol recently adopted by The Climate Registry, ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI), the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and California Climate Action Registry (CCAR). The LGO Protocol provides specific guidance and requirements for reporting annual greenhouse gas emissions from the operations of a local government.

This Standard has been developed through an external stakeholder review process consisting of agencies from all government levels as well as consultants. It is supported by the Federal Energy Management Program within the Department of Energy and the EPA.

The Provisional Draft is available to download at http://www.ghgprotocol.org/psp.

For questions or to submit comments on the standard, please email Stephen Russell or Mary Sotos at pspcomments@wri.org.

Misys Open Source Solutions

As The Climate Registry’s preferred software partner, Misys Open Source Solutions is working with the organization to develop the next generation of the Climate Registry Information System (CRIS). While this partnership marks the company’s strong entrance to the North American environmental sector, it already has experience developing environmental solutions in Europe. In expanding its suite of carbon solutions in the UK, Misys Open Source Solutions recently announced the Misys Environmental Trading Platform (METP) to help organizations prepare for the country’s Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme.

In the near future, the company plans to officially announce METP in North America to provide companies with a solution that integrates with their GHG emissions inventory reporting.

Misys Open Source Solutions, a division of Misys plc, supports the banking and treasury & capital markets and healthcare customers by leading the development of open source projects to create new services and applications to address these industry’s most difficult problems. Misys is currently leading projects to dramatically reduce atmospheric pollution and improve healthcare delivery.
