Data Transfer from CARROT to CRIS

Below you will find answers to common question on the transfer of your data from the California Climate Action Registry’s reporting tool CARROT to The Registry’s software platform CRIS.

Who will have their data transferred? Is there a fee?
All CCAR members that joined The Climate Registry prior to December 31st 2009 will have their data transferred at no cost, as a benefit of your joint membership of The Climate Registry & the California Climate Action Registry.

The following fees apply to CCAR members that joined The Climate Registry after December 31st 2009:

 1-3 years of data: 25% of your annual membership fee
 4 or more years of data: 50% of your annual membership fee

We will send you an invoice for the appropriate amount, based on the number of years of data you have reported in CARROT. If you do not want your data transferred, please let us know as soon as possible.

How will the data transfer work?

With your consent, we will electronically transfer your entity or facility level data from CARROT to CRIS.

If you reported at the entity level in CARROT all of your emissions information will appear in CRIS as one facility named “Entity Totals”.

If you reported at the facility level in CARROT:
• If you have not yet set up facilities in CRIS we will transfer your existing facility detail and structure from CARROT to CRIS
• If you have already started reporting in CRIS, we may need your help to map your CARROT facilities to those in your CRIS account
o If you have changed the way you define facilities in CRIS from how you set it up in CARROT, we will transfer your CARROT reports to a separate entity in CRIS named “[Your Organization Name] California Climate Action Registry Report”. This will allow you to report in CRIS with different facilities and still have your CARROT reports publicly available, too.

Because of the differences between CRIS and CARROT it unfortunately is not possible to transfer your source information between the two databases. What we can do is aggregate your sources by activity (stationary, mobile, processes) for each facility and transfer that information.

When will the data be transferred?
In June and July we will transfer data transfer from CARROT to CRIS for all Members with data in the California Climate Action Registry’s software tool CARROT. During this time period we are transferring data for over 130 members, and each must be done individually, so this process will take several weeks.

If you need your data transferred by a specific date, please email CRIS@theclimateregistry.org as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.

Do I need to do anything to help the data transfer?
Depending on where you are at in your CRIS reporting process, The Registry may need your assistance in matching your CARROT and CRIS information or in filling in gaps. For example, if in CARROT a facility was labeled, “Headquarters” and in CRIS it was labeled “1000 Main Street” we will need your help to map these. We will provide specific instructions as the data transfer for your organization begins.

As a final step, we will need you to do a final check of your data once imported into CRIS, for accuracy. All transferred data years will be identified as “historical” in CRIS to highlight its origin in the California Climate Action Registry.

Can I still meet the reporting deadline for my 2010 inventory?
If you have already reported in CRIS, or set up your physical inventory (facilities and sources) you should continue your reporting for your 2010 inventory to meet the June 30 reporting deadline.

If you are waiting for your data to be transferred to begin reporting in CRIS, you have an automatic reporting extension to July 31 to complete your CRIS report, no additional paperwork is required.

Can I have my data transferred if I’m not a member of The Climate Registry?
Only members of The Climate Registry may have their data transferred from CARROT to CRIS. To learn more about becoming a member of The Climate Registry please contact us at (866)523-0764×3 or read more online at: http://www.theclimateregistry.org/how-to-join/membership-options/.

What will happen to my CARROT data?
The Climate Action Reserve will continue to make previously accepted and verified CARROT reports available through its website, www.climateregistry.org. This includes data that is transferred to CRIS. The California Climate Action Registry closed as of the end of 2010 and login access to CARROT is no longer available. Please contact the Climate Action Reserve staff if you need more information (help@climateregistry.org).
